Fire Escape

A student horror game set in accommodation where familiar spaces begin behaving in impossible ways.

My role

Gameplay Programmer (Student Team Project)

As one of the team's programmers, I built the looping staircase, pickup and interaction systems, and a restart after three hits in Unreal Engine Blueprints.

Overview

The game centres on recurring alarms, distorted spaces and a threat that changes how the player moves through the building.

Technical details

I adapted an earlier portal prototype into the looping staircase. The pickup system used line traces and item tags, attached held objects to the player and disabled their collisions while held.

Outcome

The staircase, interaction and restart systems were implemented for the team project. I also prototyped a phone-camera reveal mechanic, but it was cut after rendering problems.
